Lawyer: ‘Sets record straight’ after 3 bodies found outside Northland home

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Northland man “had absolutely nothing to do” with the deaths of three of his friends, according to his attorney.

John Picerno released a statement on behalf of his client, Jordan Willis, over the weekend.

Police responded to Willis’ home two weeks ago and found the Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington.

“Jordan had absolutely nothing to do with their deaths. He does not know the timing or manner of their deaths, nor does he know how or when they exited his house. He had no knowledge that they remained in his backyard or that they needed medical attention. Had he known, he certainly would have called for help. The last time he saw them was when they left his house, and he went to bed,” Picerno said.

Picerno said he released the statement in hopes of “setting the record straight.”

The situation has sparked a lot of interest around the country, including on TikTok, where amateur detectives weighed in. Right now there is a lot of speculation. Police are still waiting on the medical examiner’s office to determine how the three men died. Investigators also said foul play was not likely involved in the men’s deaths.

The open investigation still leaves many questions for the men’s families. Alan McGeeney, Clayton’s cousin, said they’re shocked, confused, and beyond devastated because of his death.

“100% I think the situation is strange,” McGeeney said. “It just hasn’t really set in; I don’t think it will.”

Picerno said his client also wants answers.

“Jordan is unaware of how his friends died. Like the rest of us, Jordan is anxiously awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology report. On behalf of Jordan and his family, we wish to express our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of these young men, and our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Picerno said.

The attorney said Willis allowed officers to search his house when they arrived at his front door. Picerno also said Willis explained to him why he didn’t respond to family trying to reach him.

“Prior to being ed by police, he did not receive any phone calls or text messages from friends or family of the deceased. Two people came to his house; however, he did not hear them as he sleeps with air buds and a loud fan. One of those people, the wife of one of the deceased, tried to reach him via Facebook messenger, unfortunately, he did not see this message until after the police ed him. Two of his friends parked their cars on the street and there were no cars parked in his driveway. Jordan did not notice the cars in the street; however, it would not be unusual for his friends to have left their cars there overnight,” Picerno said.

The latest update on the investigation from the Kansas City Police Department said detectives are waiting on results from the medical examiner’s office.
