KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The common thread between little girls and their football-loving parents this season has been Taylor Swift. Experts say this is an opportunity for parents to build worthwhile bonds with their families on Super Bowl Sunday.

“She’s watching a lot more, because of Taylor Swift. She sets such a positive role model and I love when they pan to her,” said parent Candice Merrit.

We’ve seen already how Taylor Swift is bringing a new set of eyes to football games this season with a focus on little girls.

“We love Chiefs at our house so we watch every game but it’s been fun that they’ve been more interested in watching the games and anytime we’re like ‘Taylor’s on’ they’ll rush in,” said parent Cara Middleton.

Lee Bramlett with Good Dads KC advises fathers to see this as a two-way street. While dads are introducing their daughters to the world of football, their girls are also exposing them to something new.

“My daughters got me involved. I’ve now learned who Taylor Swift was. I didn’t know who she was,” said Bramlett.

Although it may not be a dad’s typical cup of tea, he says it’s all about creating conversation.

“They said, I listen to Taylor Swift songs, what do you think about that? It’s not my favorite genre but we listen to them then we talk about those songs,” said Bramlett.

He describes these moments as foundational to father daughter dynamics.

“I think we can use Taylor Swift, or even use sporting KC, just use these events that are happening and say hey. Here, Taylor Swift, she’s very very active in Kelce’s life, but at the same time she has her own career. So think how to get involved.”

Families will be ed together on the couch this Sunday cheering on the Chiefs and not a moment should be taken for granted.

“Those relationships are so precious to me. All the things we can impact in the world. If we can invest in the next generation, that will change the world,” he said.

Other tips to keep children engaged in the big game include talking to your children about the commercials, plays, and commentary.
