Report: Chiefs will discuss extending Andy Reid’s contract to become highest-paid NFL coach

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - those talks about Andy Reid mulling retirement after the season ended? Neither do the Chiefs.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Monday morning that “the Chiefs and Andy Reid are expected to begin negotiations in the coming weeks on a new contract that NFL sources believe should soon make Reid the highest-paid coach in football.”
As the Kansas City Chiefs were in the middle of their Super Bowl LVIII championship run, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio floated the idea of the Chiefs having an Andy Reid retirement on their radar screen.
Reid, who will turn 66 years old in March, is now the oldest head coach in the NFL.
The three-time Super Bowl-winning coach shot down rumors during a January press conference, saying he hadn’t even thought of hanging up the headset.
“I’m not that old,” he joked.
According to Pelissero, Reid and general manager Brett Veach signed contract extensions following their Super Bowl LIV win over San Francisco. A new extension would replace the final two years on those deals.
CBS Sports reported that it is expected Reid will earn an extension in which he makes more than $15 million per year.
