KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Melissa Behren, who resides in Baldwin City, was able to celebrate that she and her son our now the same age.

Being one of the few thousand born on leap day, she has only had eight birthdays in her 32 years on earth.

“We exist. We are here and we are here to stay. Every four years,” Behren said while laughing.

This particular birthday she could celebrate that she is now the same age as her 8-year-old son Kai.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where I get to be 8 years old with my son,” she said.

Being just 8, Kai could not explain why Leap Days happened, but he is aware that next birthday he will technically be older than his mom.

“He will forever be older than me once he turns nine,” Behren said. “He will forever be able to give me a hard time after this. Maybe he can start making the appointments and driving mom places.”

“I’ll say, “Go mow the grass!” Kai said with a giggle.
