KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - When, oh, when will the Community Benefits Agreement be released by the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs and Jackson County government?

The question is important, because no excuse for absentee voting begins tomorrow in Jackson County. That’s why Stand Up KC, a workers group, has put it as the deadline for their endorsement consideration.

Kansas City Councilman Johnathan Duncan announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is not ing the stadium sales tax extension.

“On April 2nd, the Royals and the Chiefs are asking the residents of Jackson County for an unprecedented investment of $2 billion public dollars for private profits. This is not what our people need, but it is what billionaires want,” Duncan said in part of his statement.

The current ers of the sales tax extension include the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Independence Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City Area Development Council, Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO, Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce, Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City Freedom, Inc., and the Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police.

The conversation is far from over. On Tuesday a stadium sales tax debate will take place at the Kansas City Public Library – Plaza branch at 6:00 p.m. It will be moderated by PBS Kansas City’s Nick Haines.

Last week, Jackson County Executive Frank White called on the teams to pay for the special election on April 2. John Sherman told KCTV 5 on Friday that he and Clark Hunt were sent the letter on Thursday, and then it was immediately leaked to the media. For that reason Sherman said he didn’t believe the request to pay for the election was sincere.

However, the Jackson County legislature did delay a vote on funding the special election on Monday, so it is conceivable those conversations have advanced and more of a possibility.
