KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with the January 2023 fentanyl overdose death of a Lansing teen.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation stated that Torin Baughman, also of Lansing, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, or in the alternative distribution of a controlled substance causing death, and aggravated endangering a child.

Cruz Burris was just 15 years old when he died of an accidental overdose last January. His parents believe a dealer delivered the fatal pill to their home while they slept. Cruz thought it was Percocet, but it was laced with fentanyl.

Cruz’s parents said he found the dealer through Snapchat. They, and the families of 26 other young people who died of fentanyl poisoning, filed suit in the Superior Court of California - County of Los Angeles.

“We appreciate all the agencies who contributed to this investigation, including the KBI and the Leavenworth County authorities; no one ever gave up,” Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said.

Baughman was booked on a $500,000 bond at the Leavenworth County Jail.
