WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Former Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Kansas’ Second Congressional District, which covers parts of central and eastern Kansas.
It comes after Congressman Jake LaTurner announced he will not seek reelection.
Schmidt was Kansas’ Attorney General for 12 years. He also represented Kansas before the United States Supreme Court, arguing three cases and winning all of them. He lost the gubernatorial race to incumbent Laura Kelly in 2022.
“My steady guidepost will be what is best for the people of the Second District and for America,” Schmidt said.
