WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - May 10 update: Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office identifies the suspect who shot an 18-year-old man in the Walmart parking lot in Goddard.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect has been identified as Ruben Contreras, a 47-year-old man from Wichita.

Deputies say Contreras remained on the scene when they arrived and was taken into custody. Contreras was booked into Sedgwick County Detention Facility for attempted second-degree murder.

The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition.

A teenager is injured following a shooting in the Walmart parking lot in Goddard.

Sedgwick County Dispatch confirmed the shooting happened around 5 p.m. in the 18000 block of W Kellogg. Law enforcement told 12 News the victim is a teenage boy. According to police on scene, one person has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting.

There is currently no threat to the public.
