Announcer fired after vulgar comments toward women at girls’ soccer game caught on mic
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) - A high school announcer caught making degrading comments during a girls’ soccer match in Kansas has been fired.
In a video circulating on social media, play-by-play announcer Toby Moore could be heard talking to a press box worker while he reportedly believed that microphones were turned off.
Some of the comments Moore can be heard saying include, “Was that first half as ugly as I thought it was?” and “My mind kind of flicked the ‘kill me now switch.”
The conversation then shifted to comments regarding women at the game, talking about their “curves” and wishing for them to “tear their clothes off.”
The Kansas High School Activities Association heard the comments and said in a release that the remarks “do not reflect values or standards of the KSHSAA or the NFHS Network,” which was airing the soccer match.
“The KSHSAA sincerely apologizes to the students, coaches, and communities of Mherson, Rose Hill, and the viewers of the broadcast,” representatives of the association shared in a statement.
The National Federation of State High School Associations Network said Moore or the other press box worker would not be d with any Kansas postseason games for the network.
“We regret that this incident detracted from the incredible achievement of the players, coaches, and fans involved in the championship,” network representatives said. “The NFHS Network is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of student-athletes and high schools across the country and we do not tolerate any behavior that undermines this mission.”
