KC Mavericks head to Florida for Kelly Cup Finals
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Mavericks hit the ice for one final practice Monday before heading south.
Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Kelly Cup Finals will be played at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla.
“Every single series, the stress level heightens,” said Tad O’Had, the Mavericks general manager and head coach.
The Mavericks and Florida Everblades are tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven series heading into Wednesday night’s game.
“Everything’s on the line here,” forward Cole Coskey said.
“Every game’s huge for us,” forward Nolan Walker said.
If necessary, Games 6 and 7 will be back at Cable Dahmer Arena.
The Mavs will first need to take care of business in the Sunshine State.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere in both buildings,” O’Had said. “We’ve talked about a pirate’s mentality: to be able to go on the road, take what’s yours, not let distractions get in the way, feed off of the environment. That’ll be a very good environment at Hertz arena. It’ll be a sold-out crowd.”
“Just trying to make their building quiet,” Walker said. “It’s going to be a really good atmosphere there, but I think if we stick to our gameplan, we’ll have success.”
“These are both great hockey clubs,” O’Had said. “Who’s willing to pay the price? The team that is, is able to be champions.”
