KCTV5 named Station of the Year by Missouri Broadcasters Association

FAIRWAY, Kan. (KCTV) — KCTV5 has been named the 2024 Large Market Station of the Year by the Missouri Broadcasters Association.
The organization’s highest honor was one of 16 awards presented to KCTV5 at the MBA’s annual convention on June 1 in Osage Beach, Mo. KCTV5 received more first place awards than any other large market station in the state.
“This team puts their heart and soul into the stories they tell every day and it’s inspiring,” said KCTV5 vice president and general manager Curtis Miles. “The renewed sense of pride and energy in our newsroom has the whole building buzzing, so it’s nice to see them rewarded for their work and their commitment to Kansas City.”
KCTV5 won a total of 10 first place awards and six second place awards. KCTV5′s Live at Five newscast on Friday, Feb. 9 live from Las Vegas was named the winner of the coveted “Best Newscast” award.
KCTV5 anchors Sharon Chen and Carolyn Long swept the “Best Anchor” category, with Chen taking home the top award followed by Long in second.
The KCTV5 Investigates team took home three first place honors, including “Best Hard News Story,” “Best News Series,” and the new “Sunshine Hero” award, which recognizes investigative reporting that makes use of the Missouri Open Meetings and Records Law.
“Our team is committed to providing stories that matter to the people of Kansas City,” said KCTV5 news director Josh Morgan. “We are humbled by this recognition and we promise to continue to provide impactful, meaningful journalism to our community.”
On Friday, May 30, former KCTV5 news anchor Anne Peterson was inducted into the MBA Hall of Fame. Anne spent 24 years on the anchor desk, 22 of those with her co-anchor Wendell Anschutz. Peterson and Anschutz, at the time, were the longest running local anchor team in the country.
