KD identifies man killed in Midtown shooting; continue searching for gunman

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Police Department responded to a shooting that killed one person and injured another person overnight.

Officers were near the area of 39th and Broadway Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday when they heard gunshots. They responded to the area and found an unresponsive man in the parking lot of a closed business with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

EMS services took the man to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Detectives were later notified that the man died from his injuries. Police identified the man as 29-year-old Deshuan R. McKinzey.

While investigating the incident, detectives were also notified that a second man with gunshot wounds was already taken to a nearby hospital. Investigators said he suffered injuries in the shooting at 39th and Broadway. Police expect the person to survive.

Crime scene investigators and homicide detectives are working to collect evidence and witness statements. Officers say there was a large crowd at the time of the shooting, and they believe someone has information that could help them solve this case.
