Independence fire displaces people living in 2 dozen apartments

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - People living in more than two dozen apartment are looking for places to stay after an early-morning fire.

Independence firefighters responded to Independence Tower near U.S. 24 and North Atherton Road around 4:15 a.m. Monday.

Emergency crews arrived and found smoke and fire inside a second floor apartment. They entered the 10-story building and were able to put out the flames.

The tenants who live in 27 apartments in the building were displaced because of the extent of smoke and fire damage.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping the Independence fire and police departments with the investigation into how the fire started.

The Red Cross is helping tenants impacted by the fire find temporary housing.
