KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Claude Monet’s 1888 art piece recently sold for $21,685,000 to an anonymous buyer at Christie’s in New York.

Mill at Limetz features Monet’s view of a grain mill on the River Epte near his home.

The art was partially gifted to the Nelson-Atkins in 1986 by Ethel B. Atha and had interest from buyers around the world. Before it was sold, it went on a world tour stopping in Hong Kong, Taipei, London and Paris. The painting’s only counterpart was sold at an auction last fall.

“We are very pleased this beautiful painting has found a new home,” said Julián Zugazagoitia, Director & CEO of the Nelson-Atkins. “The newly created Joseph S. and Ethel B. Atha Art Acquisition Endowment will allow us to acquire art that will impact many future generations.”
