KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A man is charged with assaulting a Kansas City police officer working off-duty security at a downtown grocery store Sunday morning.

Jackson County Prosecutors charged 39-year-old Jorge I. Arroyo with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Court records show the sergeant told Arroyo to leave Cosentino’s Downtown Market on East 13th Street because he’d previously been caught stealing there. The officer carried Arroyo’s belongings and put them outside.

The complaint shows Arroyo became enraged. He picked up a metal chair and allegedly used it to hit the officer in the head. The officer fell to the ground while Arroyo allegedly continued to hit him.
