KU teams up with Panasonic to create next generation of engineers
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - The University of Kansas is set to team up with Panasonic to create the next generation of talented engineers and technology.
The University of Kansas says that on Wednesday, July 10, it teamed up with Panasonic Energy Co. Ltd. to announce a t effort to promote the development of next-generation technology and to cultivate specialty expertise in lithium-ion batteries.
KU said it is a flagship university in Kansas, just miles down Kansas Highway 10 from the site of Panasonic’s second North American factory in De Soto. The factory is expected to begin production by the end of March 2025 with an annual capacity of 30 GWh. It is an important part of the company’s strategy to boost EV battery production in North America.
According to the university, this is a significant step to realize a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions through the adoption of electric vehicles. The move will also drive jobs in the De Soto area and boost the surrounding economy.
Following the 2011 University Engineering Initiative Act, university officials said the state has produced enough engineer graduates to meet industry demand as the school played a key role. As a member of the Association of American Universities, an energy and battery-related research lab with high-level research capabilities is included on campus.
With Panasonic’s extensive expertise in battery development, KU said it will collaborate to further innovative technology and nurture talent in this field. The partnership is meant to help development in the Sunflower State and to achieve a sustainable society.
KU noted that further details of the initiatives are set to be decided through an ongoing discussion with Panasonic. For more information, click HERE.
