Animals kenneled on KCK property rescued from heat; foster homes needed
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Dozens of animals are safe and out of the heat after crews rescued them from a property in Kansas City, Kansas, Monday afternoon. Now, 21 dogs are looking for new homes after being found living in poor conditions and dangerous heat.
Animal control officers said they were not being neglected and that this is part of a bigger issue.
KCK Animal Services said this was simply a situation of someone who truly does care about stray and roaming animals but got in over their head.
They said it all boils down to one thing: making sure your pets are fixed.
“Spay and neutering is just such a big key,” said Ashley Scott, the Director of KCK Animal Services.
KCK Animal Services are doubling down on that message after removing seven cats and 14 dogs, from the property.
“When we got out there, we saw that they also were living in some unfortunate circumstances,” said Scott.

Scott said although the living conditions were poor, all the animals were healthy.
“This is not a bad person; this was not intentional whatsoever,” said Scott.
Animal services assessed the animals and determined the animals are healthy and friendly. She said it came down to the owner taking it upon themselves to take in the animals. They were reproducing faster than she could get them fixed and simply ran out of resources.
“Unfortunately, this person would find pets roaming and so it goes back to people abandoning their animals in KCK and not having them spayed or neutered.”
KCK Animal Services told me as of Tuesday all 21 animals are now in foster homes.
The shelter said the owner was emotional to be separated from the animals but was grateful to animal services for stepping in and saving them.
The organization is now working to find the animals foster homes.

“We’re able to get this family resources themselves,” said Scott, “we got her set up with an outreach group and were going to make sure that she doesn’t end up in that situation again.”
KCK Animal Services partnered with Pet Resource Center of Kansas City to hold affordable spay/neuter clinics to help tackle this problem.
