KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Sunday, the Kansas City Police Department responded to a single-car crash that left one person dead.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. on July 28 on 63rd Street at Hardesty Avenue, near the Kansas City Zoo and Swope Soccer Village.

KD reported that the unidentified driver of a silver Mercedes 300D was speeding east on 63rd Street when they approached a curve in the road. The driver could not manage the curve and drove off the right side of the road, down a 120-foot embankment and into a gorge.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car as it flipped multiple times. They were the only occupant of the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to KD, this is fatality 54 of the year as compared to 49 at this time last year.
