KCTV5 named Station of the Year by Kansas Association of Broadcasters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - KCTV5 has been named the 2024 Major Market Station of the Year by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.
The organization released its winners in an online announcement Monday morning. Along with the Station of the Year honor, KCTV5 received a total of 26 awards, including more first place awards than any other major market station in the state.
KCTV5 was also named the Station of the Year by the Missouri Broadcasters Association back in early June.
“Kansas City is such a special place to live and work, and you can tell how much our team cares about this community in the work they do every day,” said KCTV5 vice president and general manager Curtis Miles. “I’m incredibly proud of the impact they are making and the stories they are sharing.”
KCTV5 won a total of 13 First Place awards, six Second Place, and seven Honorable Mention honors. KCTV5′s comprehensive coverage of the tragic shooting following the Chiefs Super Bowl rally was recognized in several different categories.

KCTV5 evening anchor Zac Summers was honored with a First Place award in the “News Feature” category for his reporting on the growing number of doomsday preppers in the Kansas City area. Meanwhile, for the second straight year, First Warn 5 meteorologist Greg Bennett took home top honors for “Weathercast.”
“To be named station of the year in both Kansas and Missouri is a testament to the incredible talent and work ethic of every single person at KCTV5,” said news director Josh Morgan. “Everything we do is with our community in mind first, and I can’t think of a better team to tell the stories that matter to Kansas City than our team here at KCTV5.”
KCTV5 will accept all honors at the annual Kansas Association of Broadcasters convention in Wichita in October.
