BARTON COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) – A 16-year-old was electrocuted Tuesday morning while working for a roofing company on a city building in the Great Bend area.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said the teen and a 24-year-old man, who was badly burned in the electrical accident, were on a hangar near the terminal building in a bucket on an aerial boom when they hit high-voltage power lines.

The 24-year-old man got onto the roof and reached the ground, but the 16-year-old was found unresponsive in the bucket, authorities said.

About 30 minutes after the accident, power was shut off and rescue personnel reached 16-year-old Ivan Joel Mollins.

They were both taken to the hospital where Mollins was pronounced dead.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation because the accident happened on city property and at a city building.
