Kansas City teenager charged with murder in Brookside chef’s homicide
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A teenager is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Kansas City Irish Chef Shaun Brady. A spokesman for Jackson County Court said the juvenile is also charged with armed criminal action and trying to steal a vehicle, in connection with the deadly shooting.
The teenager is one of two juveniles arrested Wednesday following a shooting near 63rd Street and Rockhill Road. The case remains under review, according to investigators.
The 44-year-old chef was gunned down in the parking lot of his Brady’s KC restaurant, also referred to as Brady & Fox, around 5:15 p.m. The restaurant is near 63rd Street and Rockhill Road.
The arrests were made less than an hour after the shooting, according to the department.
Officers also recovered the vehicle the teenagers are accused of using in the crime. Officers found the car in Midtown Kansas City, near the location where officers arrested the teenagers.

Police said a preliminary investigation confirmed Brady was taking out trash when he saw multiple people by a vehicle. Shortly after interacting with the group, he was shot.
The police department said the teenagers remain in custody Thursday morning, pending further investigation.
Police said they are working with the Jackson County prosecutor’s office to determine if charges are warranted.
Late Thursday afternoon Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker released a statement about Brady’s homicide. In it, she referred to Brady as a family friend and shared a touching tribute.
Amid the shock and heartache is also a growing frustration. It’s one that Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas voiced from where he is traveling on official business. Especially because investigators believe it came at the hands of teenagers.
“This is not the first, it’s not the second, it’s not the third, it’s probably not the last tragedy this year that will be committed at the hands of young assailants, the fact that these are teenage, juvenile suspects who were picked up for this offense, I think, should be concerning to each and every one of us,” Lucas said.
“I think we recognize when you have kids young ages, this means that it’s actually more than just what we can do on the enforcement side, although that’s important, we need to understand how a kid that age starts to engage in this type of behavior, why they were not stopped before, how they got firearms, and frankly, what we can do to prevent others from engaging in this sort of behavior in the future.”
Lucas said leaders are working to enhance property crimes enforcement throughout the city. He said the city and police department need to deploy to areas where concerns are happening.
“I had a conversation with kd leadership today about that they are looking at more redeployment wherever they can to address these issues. There have been arrests, and there will continue to be arrests,” Lucas said.
