2nd juvenile charged in Shaun Brady’s homicide makes first court appearance
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The second person charged in Shaun Brady’s death will stay in the juvenile detention center at least until the end of September.
The 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County Judge Jennifer Phillips made her decision Wednesday morning at the juvenile’s first court appearance since his arrest.
The 10th grader appeared in court with representation and his father at the Family Justice Center. Their representation asked he be monitored at Hilltop Residential Center in Lee’s Summit but that request was denied.
The juvenile is charged with second-degree murder and attempted stealing.

The family court argued to Judge Phillips that the defendant has accrued several past run-ins with the law citing tresing, resisting arrest, being caught with a controlled substance, and another 11 incident reports on file from Hilltop.
The juvenile’s attorney argued he was the enger in the car that night – but not the shooter. The juvenile’s attorney went on to argue that despite his client’s checkered past, this past year has been a good one. The defendant’s attorney claimed he is involved in after-school programs, church, and family including raising a child of his own.
The juvenile’s next court date is set for September 25 at 9 a.m.
