WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - With less than two months remaining before Election Day, political parties are intensifying their efforts to mobilize their bases and appeal to voters.

The Kansas Democratic Party held its annual Demofest convention in Wichita over the weekend, aiming to energize ers as November approaches. The event featured various seminars and a keynote speech by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

Kansas Democrats are focusing on both presidential and down-ballot races. Historically, the state has been a stronghold for Republicans, who have won Kansas in every presidential election since 1968. However, Democrats are also targeting state legislative races, where all House and Senate seats are up for grabs.

Currently, Republicans hold a supermajority in both chambers, which enables the GOP to have a veto-proof margin.

Jeanna Re, chair of the Kansas Democratic Party, emphasized the importance of breaking the GOP’s supermajority.

“As you look at the American Recovery Act and its impact on infrastructure, it’s clear that who occupies the White House matters. We’re hoping this will bring energy and enthusiasm to both our base and moderates as we work to make significant changes in Kansas,” Re said.

The convention highlighted the party’s strategy to leverage national issues and local concerns to gain traction ahead of the elections.
