Several injured from small explosion at food trailer at Kansas State Fair
Witnesses describe hearing explosion, seeing ‘glass everywhere’
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the fire marshal with the Hutchinson Fire Department are investigating an incident described as a workplace accident involving a small explosion at a food trailer at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
The emergency response, prompted at about 6:30 p.m., followed witness reports of an explosion. The state fire marshal confirms that multiple people were hurt, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
“We were walking by and it sounded like a big bomb,” fairgoer Hailey Crank said. “Everybody started running, we all ducked.”
The Kansas State Fair said a little before 6:30 p.m., the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a concession trailer on the fairgrounds.
“Crews arrived to find a concession trailer that appeared to have had a small explosion,” a news release from Kansas State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz said in a news release.”
Schulz said two people injured were transported to Hutchison Regional Medical Center.
“Several others sustained minor injuries and refused treatment and transport,” Schulz said.
