KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Waldo Pizza is sharing a piece of its profit with Brady’s KC weeks after its owner Shaun Brady was fatally shot.

Brady was shot and killed outside the restaurant on 63rd Street and Rockhill Road on August 29 during a confrontation with people who were allegedly attempting to steal cars. The restaurant has been closed for the past two weeks since the killing, leaving its staff out of work.

“I felt for everybody. I mean the staff and his family. It’s horrible,” said general manager Aaron Kanatzar.

Kanatzar’s restaurant is located just a couple miles away from Brady’s. Although Brady’s serves Irish food and Waldo is known for its pizza, the two places have more in common than meets the eye.

“We have some connections to people that work there,” said Kanatzar, “We have staff that work at both places,” said Kanatzar.

It was this connection he says made him inclined to step in and help. The restaurant will contribute 15 percent of the profits made on Thursday to the staff at Brady’s KC.

“That’s how you make your money to feed your kids, pay your rent, it’s where you meet friends who become pretty much like family so it’s a lifestyle,” he said.

From one restaurant family to another, Waldo Pizza is serving out a helping hand.

“It’s very difficult, I definitely empathize for anyone who loses work for any reason because I know a lot of us are living paycheck to paycheck,” he said.

The fundraiser ends at 9 p.m. on Thursday with more potential fundraisers to come in the future. Details can be found on the Waldo Pizza Facebook page.
