Chiefs, Ravens fined for unnecessary roughness during season opener
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Players on both the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens were fined thousands of dollars for unnecessary roughness during plays in the season opener.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero announced on Saturday, Sept. 14, that Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Isiah Pacheco has been fined $5,500 for a play made in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Pelissero indicated that the NFL fined Pacheco for unnecessary roughness on a play that was not flagged during the game. During a run in the third quarter, Pacheco lowered his head to initiate with Ravens Safety Marcus Williams.

The NFL said this was part of the league’s effort to crack down on players who lower their heads for tackles.
According to Jeff Zrebiec at The Athletic-Baltimore two Ravens players were fined for unnecessary roughness during the same game. Outside Linebacker Odafe Oweh was fined more than $20,000 for lowering his head during a tackle with Pacheco.
Middle Linebacker Roquan Smith was fined nearly $17,000 for the horse collar tackle against Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice. Chiefs Tight End Peyton Hendershot was also fined nearly $5,500 after he shoved Smith on the sideline during the fourth quarter. The Chiefs as a team were hit with a $100,000 fine for the same incident.
