Kansas City teenagers may be tried as adults for Shaun Brady’s homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Two teenagers charged in connection with the shooting death of a popular Brookside chef will remain in custody, at least for now.

Each suspect attended a hearing at the Jackson County Courthouse Wednesday morning.

The first teenager is only referred to as KH in court. Prosecutors have not publicly released because he is 15 years old and considered juvenile in the eyes of the court.

The attorney for the teenager previously said he does not have a criminal record.

A judge scheduled a December 4 certification hearing to determine whether he will be tried as an adult for the crimes he faces.

The second-degree murder and attempted stealing. LM is a 10th grader and also under the age of 18.

LM’s attorney previously argued at a hearing that while his client was in the car the day of the shooting, but was not the shooter. He also told the court that LM is involved in after-school programs, church, and family. He also is raising a child of his own.

The same judge scheduled a December 18 hearing to determine whether LM will be tried as an adult.

The judge ruled the two teenagers will continue to be held in secure custody.

The teenagers are accused of shooting and killing 44-year-old Shaun Brady. The shooting happened last month in the parking lot of his restaurant, Brady’s & Fox.

Police said Brady was taking out trash from the restaurant when he saw multiple people by a vehicle. He said something to the group, according to investigators, and was shot.

The police department said the two teenagers were arrested about an hour after the shooting.
