MoDOT worker hit and killed on rural Missouri highway by 18-year-old driving semi-truck

NEWLAND, Mo. (KCTV) - A teen hit and killed a MoDOT Kansas City worker in rural Missouri on Tuesday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on MO State Highway O, a two-lane road with no shoulder in Pettis County.

According to MSHP, an 18-year-old from Hughesville, Missouri, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt 379 when he hit 60-year-old Jay Bone.

Bone was declared dead at the scene around 11:30 a.m. by paramedics.

On Wednesday, the Missouri Department of Transportation Kansas City announced that Bone was a 9-year senior maintenance worker in the line of duty when he hit. MoDOT asked the community to keep “the Bone family, friends and coworkers in your thoughts.”

The crash report states that the Peterbilt was insured by the Olive Hill Amish Mennonite Church. MoDOT said the crash is under investigation by MSHP.
