Kansas voters should return ballots, avoid mailing, leader says
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The U.S. Post Office says it is taking steps to make sure mail-in ballots are returned in time for the Nov. election, but leaders suggest other options.
Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab said he spoke to the USPS Postmaster General Thursday. He said he voiced his concerns over the way the post office handled mail-in ballots during the Kansas primary.
The 1,000 ballots to be delayed. According to a statement from Schwab, the Postmaster General said there were processing errors.
“He reassured me that the USPS will implement new measures to prevent similar issues in the General Election and acknowledged past errors in processing primary ballots,” Schwab said in a statement.

Schwab said that if voters are given the option to use a mail-in ballot, the mail needs to be reliable.
“That is why we are encouraging voters who vote by mail to use a more secure way of returning your ballot to the country election office, if possible, Schwab said.
Leaders suggest using one of the following options instead of mailing in a ballot:
- Return a ballot in person to an election office
- Return ballot in person to an advance voting location
- Return ballot to a polling location on election day
- Drop ballot in a county-owned voting drop box
