In Missouri, Columbus Day is a state holiday. It’s not the only holiday which differs from Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - In the Kansas City area, one half of the state line has state and post offices among several other businesses closed Monday. Columbus Day is one of 13 holidays recognized by the state of Missouri. Kansas has two fewer.

Both the Show-Me and Sunflower states have New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

According to their state’s Office of istration pages, Kansas also recognizes the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and a discretionary day, or floating holiday. Missouri celebrates Lincoln’s Birthday, Truman Day and Columbus Day, in addition to its other holidays.

Here are the recognized holidays and their 2025 dates in each state:
