KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The hospital is the last place any parent wants to think for even a second their child would have to be at. Robyn Warner has had to come to Children’s Mercy Hospital every day for the last 10 days.

She feared her baby wouldn’t survive the assault investigators say she endured. Then day by day, Willow fought to survive, and doctors told Robyn her now 4-month-old baby girl is on a path to recovery, which Warner calls a miracle.

For 10 days, Robyn Warner has been in the last place any parent wants to be. But things are finally looking up.

“Oh, I felt a rush of relief come off my body,” Warner said. “I’ve never felt that in my life. I felt it when they told me she’s going to survive this.”

Robyn’s roommate, Johnny Bonacorso is charged in the case. Court documents allege he beat and even sexually assaulted her. For days, Willow Warner’s brain was swelling, and her mother feared the worse. But she’s rebounded since we last spoke to Robyn earlier in October. The swelling and seizures have stopped too.

“She’s showing more sassiness and spunk,” Warner recalled. “The nurses see it all the time, she started moving and reacting to us touching her. That gave me a little bit of relief before the MRI.”

At only 4 months old, Robyn sees Willow as a strong fighter.

“She fought through the whole thing and came out where she’s at,” Warner praised. “Honestly, I think she takes after my family a lot. My dad was super stubborn going through a lot of health issues.”

Bonacorso is in custody at the Clay County jail and will be back in court tomorrow. Robyn will be there, will be there too and has a message for the man she once called a friend.

“I want him to know he is going to regret messing with my family,” Warner stated. “I am going to see this through the end and make sure he pays for it.”

Bonacorso has pleaded not guilty and will argue for a lower bond from the judge. He’ll be in court on Tuesday.

There’s still a GoFundMe page set up to pay for Willow’s medical expenses which Warner says is needed very much because she’s been unable to work through all this. Donate by clicking here.
