KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tips his hat to a Kansas City institution.

Mahomes and Adidas are partnering with the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City on a new shoe.

The FLX Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Training Shoe is now on sale. Look closely and you’ll see the special features of the shoe.

The Kansas City Monarchs and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum are celebrated with logos on the heel and sockliner of the shoe. Mahomes' logo is on the tongue of the shoe.

The tribute comes as the museum celebrates 100 years since the Kansas City Monarchs won the inaugural Negro League World Series.

“We are tremendously proud to partner with adidas and Patrick Mahomes on this fashionable but historically relevant tribute to the great Kansas City Monarchs as part of the museum’s milestone 100th anniversary celebration of the Monarchs winning the inaugural Negro League World Series,” Bob Kendrick, NLBM president, said.

Mahomes made a name for himself on the gridiron, but grew up playing baseball and hanging out in Major League Baseball clubhouses with his father.

He is known to sport Monarch’s gear when arriving at training camp, or at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, but says this is different than wearing team gear.

“I’m blessed to have my latest colorway honor the @nlbmuseumkc and all athletes that paved the way for myself and so many more. This collection pays tribute to the KC Monarchs and the 100th anniversary of their Negro Leagues World Series title,” Mahomes posted on social media.

The tribute is something that’s truly Mahomes, according to Kendrick.

“From the moment Patrick arrived in Kansas City, he has shown his affinity for the museum and the heritage of the game. This new adidas collection is a significant example of that deep-rooted connection,” Kendrick said.
