Scam Alert: New scam claims to get loved ones out of jail for $600
JOHNSON CO., Kan. (KCTV) - Metro area residents have been warned about a new type of scam that claims to be able to let loved ones out of jail with an ankle monitor for $600.
The Johnson County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday, Oct. 17, that it had received reports of a new type of scam. In this scheme, criminals those with loved ones in jail and claim to be able to put on an electronic monitoring device for $600 so they may be released.
Law enforcement officials noted that it does not work that way. The only way an inmate can be placed under house arrest is through a court order. There are payments when someone is under house arrest, however, all transactions are through the courts.
The Sheriff’s Office has warned community that if they have any doubts about the validity of a call, they should hank up and call the Sheriff’s Office at 913-782-0720 for more information.
