Woman missing for over 5 years was dismembered and left in dumpster, investigators say
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - Two people were arrested in connection to the death of a woman who went missing in Colorado more than five years ago.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said 51-year-old Kimberly Bell was reported missing in August 2019 after her sister noticed she stopped showing up to work.
Bell’s body has never been found, but officials initially said they believed she may have been killed by someone she knew.
The case was later turned over to a cold case team with the sheriff‘s office in 2021.
Investigators learned two suspects, identified by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as 30-year-old Javier Martel and 38-year-old Jennifer Bremer, were known to Bell.
The sheriff’s office revealed during the investigation that Martell choked Bell to death. She was then allegedly dismembered with an axe, and her remains were put in trash bags and left in a dumpster near a veterinary clinic, Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said.
Martel was arrested for first-degree murder. Bremer was arrested for identity theft and accessory to a crime.
Officials ask that anyone who may have information about the case to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
