Juveniles charged in Shaun Brady shooting remain in detention
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The two juveniles charged with the murder of Irish Chef Shaun Brady, referred to as “KH” and “LM” during Tuesday’s court proceedings, will remain in juvenile detention.
Judge Jennifer Phillips denied both defense attorneys’ requests to move the teenagers to Hilltop Juvenile Correctional Facility or house arrest and ruled the cases will remain open to the public.
With Shaun Brady’s family in Ireland, the next court proceedings will determine whether future court proceedings will be shown virtually.
Brady, 44, was murdered during a confrontation while he was taking out the trash at his restaurant Brady & Fox in late August.

Brady cooked breakfast at Irishfest, which was a ion of his to share his Irish culture. Erin Gabert was his friend and worked with him at Irishfest.
“Shaun has left a big legacy behind him, but his legacy is not about the way he died, but about the way he lived,” Gabert said.
Judge Phillips scheduled the certification hearing in the trial against “KH” on Dec. 4, but that date could be updated. She scheduled the certification hearing for “LM” on Dec. 18 at 9:30 a.m.

The certification hearings will determine whether the juveniles will be tried as adults.
That recommendation is ultimately taken to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, and she would either move the case to the 16th District Court or keep it in juvenile court.
The juvenile’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m.
An important note: Peters Baker’s term as Jackson County Prosecutor will conclude on Tues. Dec. 31 – when she will be replaced by either Democrat Melesa Johnson or Republican Tracey Chappell.
