Buc-ee’s is a go: Popular gas store chain gets final approval for KCK location
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A gas store chain popular in the south is officially on its way to expansion in the Kansas City area.
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County Board of Commissioners approved the development of a Buc-ee’s travel center at 601 Village West Parkway on Thursday evening.
Buc-ee’s is expected to bring millions of visitors to the metro and hire hundreds of employees when the store opens near Kansas Speedway.
According to the plans, Buc-ee‘s plans to build a travel center that is about 74,000 square feet. It will be one of the company’s largest locations, according to the plan.
It will stand just northwest of Interstate 435 and Interstate 70, right next to Kansas Speedway.
The county approved creating a community improvement district and will levy a 1% sales tax on purchases made at the Buc-ee’s store.
The center will also include 120 gas pumps and 12 electric charging stations. The project, which will begin in May, is expected to cost about $95 million.
