Future bright for Wyandotte County with Buc-ee’s planned to bring in the bucks
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The future Buc-ee’s Station also puts Wyandotte County on a more prosperous path.
As you come off the 110th Street exit off I-70 here into Village West there’s so much to do. Getting gas is not one of them, but soon tourists and locals will have an experience like no other around Kansas City when they come by to fill up.
As a frequent cross-country traveler, Daniel Blanchette is no stranger to the popular travel stop Buc-ee’s.
“They make a lot of their own food, the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches are excellent and almost addictive,” Blanchette said.
Now, he’ll live right next to the only one in the state of Kansas and the Kansas City Metro. He thinks locals will benefit from this project too.
“I call it a little bit of a wasteland here because the nearest gas station is over 2-3 miles away,” Blanchette told KCTV. “So, having a gas station nearby would be a lot easier.”
The thought of drivers ing by the Kansas Speedway seeing a 120-pump station with gift shops and more has Visit KCK confident the entire Village West will see boosts in business. They’ll also step up in marketing this and all projects to attract customers when completed.
“Buc-ee’s is not just about getting gas but it’s a major draw about getting people off the highway,” Executive Director Alan Carr said. “I think this is going to help us bring more visitors into Kansas City, KS. Its location is great.”
With it being a community improvement district, a 1% sales tax at all purchases there means fewer burdens on locals for public funds. This could generate up to $10 million over a 20 year period.
“When visitors come here and spend their money, their spending dollars that our locals don’t have to and our economy,” Carr believes.
The Buc-ee’s station will take up 20-acres of the land right behind me. Construction should begin in May of next year and be complete in 2027.
