RAYTOWN, Mo. (KCTV) - An investigation is underway after Raytown police officers shot and killed a man on Sunday. He has since been identified by police as 32-year-old Kenneth R. Williams of Grandview, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident started shortly after midnight on Nov. 9 when a QuikTrip private security guard and Williams got into an altercation.

During the altercation, Williams allegedly made threats about having explosives and guns in his car, which was parked in the parking lot. He walked away from the scene before the Raytown Police Department arrived.

Officers began evacuating the area around the QuikTrip to allow the Kansas City Police Department bomb squad to investigate.

As they were waiting, Williams reportedly returned to the parking lot and started moving toward his car. MSHP stated that the officers on-scene gave Williams commands, but he did not comply with those commands and entered his car.

A Raytown officer shot Williams, who was later declared dead at an area hospital. According to police, his next of kin was notified.

KD’s bomb squad said it did recover explosive materials from Williams’ car but did not elaborate on what those materials were.

A spokesperson for the convenience store released a statement Monday afternoon about the deadly shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
