KC Mavericks host annual Kids Day at sold out at Cable Dahmer Arena
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - Tuesday marked one of the biggest crowds in KC Mavericks history, but it wasn’t adults setting the record.
As in years past for Kids Day, thousands of children stole the show, with more than 5,500 in attendance. North of 60 schools in Jackson and Johnson counties were in attendance for the sell-out crowd.
The puck officially dropped at 10:30 a.m. much earlier than most Mavericks games begin. Every kid in attendance received a gift bag with school supplies, a learning booklet and snacks.

Teachers didn’t go home empty-handed—they also received gift bags.

The Kids Day game is an annual tradition for the KC Mavericks. Ben DeLaForest with the Mavericks said the Kids Day game is an important part of the organization‘s mission, and it’s a way to introduce kids to the game.
“It’s going to be one of the biggest games we’ve had in Mavericks history,” DeLaForest said. “These kids are going to have the time of their lives and that’s what we want for them.”
Kids anywhere from elementary to high school were able to stay for the game, many of them heading to Cable Dahmer Arena for the first time.
“I’ve always wanted to go to a hockey game in person, I’ve only seen them on TV,” said Claire, a fourth-grade student.
“It’s actually a really good opportunity because most schools don’t get it like us,” eighth-grade student Dre-Zaiah said.
The Mavericks will head to Wichita on a Wednesday for another kids game. You can watch Saturday night home games all season on KCTV5’s sister station, KSMO-TV.
