‘The law clearly spoke’: Cameron Lamb’s family wants Mike Kehoe to keep Eric Devalkenaere imprisoned
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s been five years since Eric Devalkanere and, despite a conviction, his killer could soon walk free.
“Really since my son’s death, I have not put up a Christmas tree,” said Cameron Lamb’s mom Laurie Bey.
What usually is seen as a season of joy for most has become a season of grief for Cameron Lamb’s family. His family spends birthdays and holidays visiting the cemetery where he was buried. It’s been more than five years since they’ve put up a tree for Christmas or taken family photos.
“Christmas was our family holiday, our main family holiday and I mean it’s hard. Life has just not been the same without our son,” said Bey.
Lamb’s convicted killer Eric Devalkanere is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for his 2019 death. Governor-elect Mike Kehoe said in a speech last week, he plans to cut that sentence short.

“I’ve been very vocal about saying, should I succeed in running for governor, Eric DeValkenaere will be home with his family,” said Kehoe.

A spokesperson for Kehoe says he and his wife formed a relationship with Devalkanere’s family prior to his incarceration through their of the Kansas City lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, but that this wouldn’t affect the decision.
The statement issued to KCTV5 from Kehoe’s office reads in part: “Any action that may be taken by Kehoe in the Governor’s Office would be due to the unjust sentencing Eric received by a woke prosecutor, not their friendship.”
Lamb’s family said despite this statement, they feel differently.
“He was not privileged. We’re not privileged. I’ve worked hard every day of my son’s life you know and no matter what, this would not be the outcome,” said Bey.
Kehoe’s statement reopens old wounds for the family who says they have turned to their faith for healing.
“Our hope and trust is not in them because they done showed us what they gonna do, so our hope and trust and our faith is in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and He’s gonna have the last word,” said Lamb’s stepfather Aqil Bey.

In this season of giving, Lamb’s family is asking for the gift of grace.
“The law clearly spoke and if you wanna be the governor for the people, then let the law work for everybody,” said Aqil Bey.
KCTV5 also ed Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s office for his response about whether he plans to grant Devalkenaere clemency. The office responded it is considering clemency, but no decision has been made.
