KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A pair of Kansas City Royals stars have been rewarded for their outstanding play during the 2024 season.

Tuesday night, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and catcher Salvador Perez were named American League winners for the Silver Slugger at their respective positions.

It’s the continuation of a standout season for Witt Jr., who was named an AL MVP Finalist on Monday and was named a Gold Glove Award winner last week. The awards come following a season that saw him lead the AL in batting average and produce a second straight 30 home run, 30 stolen base season for Kansas City.

Perez, in his age 34 season, hit 27 home runs and had 104 RBI while playing in 158 games. That was the second-most games he’d played in a season in his career and was the second 100-RBI season of his career.

The 2024 award is Perez’s fifth Silver Slugger of his career and Witt Jr.’s first. It’s the first time the Royals have have multiple Silver Slugger Award winners in the same season since 1982.

Because of the play of Witt Jr. and Perez, the Royals reached the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
