KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Public Works is celebrating the wrap-up of another roadwork season.

Since 2021, the department has managed to pave or resurface more than 1,500 lane miles of city streets. More than 338 lane miles have already been resurfaced in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Using new cameras, lasers and other equipment, construction crews can detect potholes, cuts and other road damage more efficiently. Now, they are working to get to other areas next year.

“What we’re going to do is build up the most robust system for next year,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said. “Let us know. Our good folks here on staff want to hear about streets that need attention. You can call 3-1-1 or the mykc app to say what we need to do.”

The new asphalt is also being made from recycled material to last longer.
