CBS Mornings broadcasts live from KC Stadium in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A tech crew from New York spent much of the day Thursday hoisting gear to create a studio for CBS Mornings at KC Stadium on the Riverfront. It’s a rare thing to have the entire main anchor team on the road.
Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Nate Burleson anchored the show from Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. Dokoupil can’t recall any other time. This time, they are in Kansas City, because the home of the KC Current will be the site of Saturday’s National Women’s Soccer League Championship match.
“It’s a big deal that women sports is having this huge moment. And I think that will continue. I think it’s also a big deal that we’re in the first purpose built stadium exclusively for a women’s soccer team anywhere in the world. That’s pretty cool.”

The battle for the title pits the Washington Spirit against the Orlando Pride. The Pride took the Current out of the running in the semifinals.
CBS Mornings staff said the anchor team will be treated to a barbecue delivered from Joe’s KC and Gates. There was chatter that Joe’s was the first picked but King insisted on adding Gates. She worked as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor at a local Kansas City station at the start of her career.
The CBS Mornings show live from KC will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
You can watch on KCTV5, which will also be broadcasting the championship match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
