‘What a bright time:’ Holiday lights across the Kansas City area this season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s that time of the year and lights are twinkling. Here is where you can find holiday light displays throughout the Kansas City area.

The Country Club Plaza is having its 95th annual Evergy Plaza Lighting Ceremony on Thanksgiving. The full schedule begins at 5 p.m. and the lighting will be at 7:05 p.m. Clark and Tavia Hunt will flip the switch with fireworks to follow. The lights will stay on until Jan. 12.

The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Event is on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Crown Center Square. The ceremony will have a new lighting event. New and old traditions will be combined at the free event. A light show and fireworks show will follow. Throughout the season light shows with special guests will occur on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at various times until Jan. 5.

Holiday Reflections at Union Station runs through Jan. 1. KC’s largest indoor holiday experience lets you celebrate the holidays with lots of love with at least five new additions. General ission is $10 but does not include the preservation fee. The display is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Jingle! is being held at Legends Field. Ice skate on the ice trail, tube on real snow and stroll through lights. The sing-a-long piano bar will be playing all the holiday tunes. You can shop from vendors from local artists. The season opens Nov. 29 and runs through the remainder of the year. Tickets start anywhere from $26-34 and can be purchased online, reservations will fill up.

The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is in its 25th year and offers three experiences. The traditional luminary walk is on Fridays and Saturdays on select dates from 5 to 8:30 p.m. People can stroll through illuminated pathways with Gnome and Fairy Villegaes, a children’s garden, musical performances and more. The adults-only experience is a Candlelight Stroll and falls on select Thursdays. The arboretum can be experienced after dark and adults can enjoy the lights and candles without the children. The Electric Glow is on select weekdays throughout the season. Family and friends can stroll this low-key version of the Luminary Walk. Many items are removed to make it calmer. Capacity is limited for a more relaxed experience. Additional information for all three can be found here.

Winter Magic: KC’s Favorite Drive-thru Holiday Light Party is running through Jan. 5 at 10400 N Platte Purchase Dr. Tickets start at $20 per car and prices depend on the day you go and are higher if you buy in person. This year they have doubled the number of lights.

Evergy Festival of Lights at Powell Gardens began Nov. 14 and is open on select days until Jan 4. This light show turns KC’s botanical gardens into a winter paradise. Parking and ticket prices vary by date and ticket type, which can be purchased on the Powell Gardens website. The entire path is about 1.5 miles with multiple places to rest. There are events, concerts and features throughout the season.

Sar-Ko Aglow is back beginning Dec. 6 through Jan. 20. Thousands of lights brighten the park during the winter. Rose’s Pond at night will reflect all the lights on the water creating an extra spectacle. ission is free and free parking is available at Sar-Ko-Par Trails park.

Longview Lake is having the 37th annual Christmas in the Park beginning on Nov. 27. The display will run through the end of the year. The winter wonderland features over 1 million lights and 200 displays. ission is free and the drive begins at the Frank White Jr., Softball Complex. Donations will be accepted that benefit 35 local charities and will be taken at the exit.

Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane returns to Deanna Rose. Turn your radio to 90.5 Rose FM to hear holiday classics as you watch the show. ission is free and runs from Nov. 28 through the end of the year.

Paragon Star is bringing back the Lee’s Summit Magic Tree with a lighting ceremony on Nov. 27. Throughout the season there will be a holiday pop-up bar with trivia nights.
