Santa Claus Lane returns to Blue Springs neighborhood
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - Neighbors on Alger Rd. - now dubbed Santa Claus Lane through the end of the year - in Blue Springs have brought back their tall inflatable Santas for a second year.
“We started it just because we love this time of year and now, it’s to help others,” said Kim Phillips, part of the Algerhood Neighborhood group.
She says a neighbor saw a TikTok showing houses next to each other had purchased inflatable Santas. She shared the post to their Facebook group last year saying ‘You guys!!!! I have an idea...’
“That’s where it started,” said Phillips. “Then we had one neighbor who went all over the Kansas City area trying to find these Santas. We ended up with 21 Santas.”
It became a hit in the community; neighbors say hundreds of cars came up and down the street over the holidays last year. The fun idea inspired other streets in the neighborhood and this year, matching inflatables can be spotted dotting the other streets.
“We’ve got snowmen now, Christmas trees, reindeer, elves, gingerbread men,” said Phillips. “You name it, we probably have it.”
If you go this year, you may notice a charitable addition along Santa Claus Lane.
“We think it’s amazing that we’ve all come together, and we have a cause this year that we are actually getting donations for and that’s the Community Service League,” said Phillips. “All the donations go to that to help the community out.”
Community Services League is a nonprofit organization that assists the community of Eastern Jackson County and beyond with resources to build financial stability and self-sufficiency.
And it all was started by neighbors turned friends and family. They hope to spread some holiday cheer and hope this year.
“We’re a family here,” said Phillips. “Something I never thought I would have in a neighborhood. We help each other out if we need something. We’ve done yardwork together, helped doing things like putting doors up in houses. If you need something, everybody is here for you. Just like a family.”
