Charges dropped against Kansas City teen accused in murder of Chef Shaun Brady
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Prosecutors dropped charges against one of two teenagers accused in the death of Irish Chef Shaun Brady.
A spokesperson for Jackson County Circuit Court confirmed charges against L.M. were dropped and there are no pending hearings in his case.
Matthew Merryman of The Bates & Merryman Law Firm represented L.M. He was frustrated that the court held him in juvenile detention for more than three months.

“They got the wrong kid,” Merryman said. “He was literally a heartbeat away from getting railroaded by this system and becoming just another statistic.”
A tried as an adult in the case later this month.
Brady was gunned down in the parking lot of his Brookside Brady’s KC restaurant, also referred to as Brady & Fox, around 5:15 p.m. in late August. Police said a preliminary investigation confirmed Brady was taking out the trash when he saw multiple people by a vehicle. Shortly after interacting with the group, he was shot.

The arrests of the juvenile suspects were made less than an hour after the shooting, according to the department.
“I think that there are lots of reports out there that say that there wasn’t a single individual,” Merryman said. “What I do know is that our client – he was not involved in this.”
KD told KCTV5 that the investigation into the murder of Shaun Brady is ongoing and detectives are looking into all leads.
Officers also recovered the vehicle the teenagers were accused of using in the crime. Officers found the car in Midtown Kansas City, near the location where officers arrested the teenagers.

Merryman said L.M. is grateful to be back home since the court’s decision went into effect last Wednesday.
“It’s an opportunity to reflect and try to hit a reset going into next year – my client has a lot of making up to do as it relates to his education. His parents have a lot of making up to do, as it has to do with home finances,” Merryman said. “Everybody has lost a lot of work and a lot of schooling because of this, so it’s just one day at a time right now.”
