Speeding driver didn’t pull over for troopers because he was ‘frightened by tractor-trailers’

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) - A man caught speeding on a highway did not pull over for police because he claimed he was “frightened by tractor-trailers.”

Troopers say the real reason 31-year-old Javier Enrique Guadalupe did not slow down for them was because his driver’s license was suspended.

Troopers were doing traffic enforcement along Interstate 91 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, earlier Friday morning when they said they clocked Guadalupe driving over 100 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

Troopers caught up with Guadalupe and turned on their emergency light and siren to perform a traffic stop.

Guadalupe refused to stop, according to authorities.

Troopers said they eventually ended the pursuit “in the interest of public safety.”

A trooper spoke with an immediate family member who told them that the ed owner no longer resided there and provided an updated address.

The trooper went to the new address and found the Toyota parked near the home.

While speaking with the ed owner, Guadalupe approached the door and itted to driving the vehicle.

Guadalupe told them that he did not stop because he had never been pulled over before and was frightened by the tractor-trailers on the highway.

He was arrested and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, speeding, reckless driving and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Guadalupe was released on a $10,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 27.
