‘I predict both teams stay in Kansas City’: Mayor Lucas addresses hopes for 2025
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Improving safety for Kansas Citians and changing the city for the better are the hopes Mayor Quinton Lucas has for 2025.
“New beginnings is a big part of the job,” Lucas said. “I say that as a second-term mayor.”
He expressed his hopes during an exclusive interview with KCTV5’s Carolyn Long.
Following the Chiefs rally shooting, Mayor Lucas shared that fans should be able to safely celebrate, but said discussion is needed to figure out exactly how to make that happen.

The Kansas City council approved a plan to build a detention facility on the eighth floor of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Headquarters. Lucas, along with other leaders, also hope to build a larger detention facility near the Jackson County jail in the eastern part of the city.
In addition to making Kansas City safer, Lucas also said some big changes are heading to the metro.
By the end of next year, Mayor Lucas hopes construction on the I-70 South Loop Project will be underway.

“We have seen good public and private ,” Lucas said. “You’re seeing people excited about it.”
Lucas also predicts there will finally be a decision on where the Chiefs and Royals will play. This comes after a failed vote in April 2024 that would have funded a new Royals stadium in the Crossroads Art District.
Since the April election, there has been controversy about the future homes of the Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I predict both teams stay in Kansas City,” Lucas said. “2025 is the year we figure it out. And I think, fortunately, after 2025, we never have to talk about it again.
