Mayor Quinton Lucas reflects on Kansas City’s 2024 accomplishments and future
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The city has a lot to celebrate as it reflects on 2024 while looking toward the future.
Mayor Quinton Lucas said he is proud of the city being home to the CBS Mornings experienced first hand.
During an interview with KCTV’s Carolyn Long, Lucas also expressed excitement about the Country Club Plaza’s future under new ownership.
“The Plaza is an important, exceptional jewel of our region that perhaps we needed to polish a bit more,‘” Lucas said.

Unfortunately with the highs, the year also brought extreme lows.
On the heels of the Kansas City Chiefs winning a second straight Super Bowl with deadly gunfire.
“This time last year, if you , that many of us, myself included, were running from gunfire. We saw our first responders who I will respect forever running towards police, fire, emergency personnel who help to address the challenges with, I believe, more than two dozen victims,” Lucas said. “And I think it made us all have a very serious conversation about the problems that we have not fixed yet.”
Lucas said the shooting is something everyone continues to process as leaders work to determine how to make large gatherings safer.

With the challenges, Lucas said he is working to improve the city for everyone who lives in or visits it.
“I love what we’re doing in Kansas City. I think there’s great progress,” Mayor Lucas said. “And more than anything, you know, I just want to be part of Kansas City on this exceptional journey we’re on right now.”
