Less cold, but more snow for Thursday
Winter Weather Advisory issued to the south
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Winter continues to be in full swing, as we are First Warning you for another round of snow for Thursday. While this one won’t have anywhere near the horsepower that the weekend’s blizzard packed, it will likely bring accumulation. It may also cause more issues than a typical low-end snow event, as it’s complicated by our already-slick roads.
Thursday will start dry but very cold again, with morning lows near 5 and wind chills near -5. The sun will shine through about lunchtime before clouds fill in. A steady south breeze at 10-20 mph will finally help push the worst of the cold out, and our highs top out in the low 30s. This will make for the warmest afternoon since last Friday!
Snow, along with a brief and light mix of sleet and freezing drizzle, is possible as early as 5 pm. This looks very patchy. The brunt of the snow will come after 9 pm and peak near midnight. It is a quick round and will be gone by daybreak Friday. In its wake, 1/2″ to 1″ is likely for the Kansas City metro, with a dusting to a half inch north and up to 3″ south. It should be noted that this is what’s most likely to occur, but there is a low chance for a snow band to form over the metro. If this were to happen, which has about a 20% chance, then we could approach 2″. This is like trying to forecast where a severe storm will form 24 hours in advance... We know they will be around, but not necessarily which neighborhood they will over.
Friday is dry with highs near 30, with a similar setup for much of Saturday. However, we have a new First Warn for Sunday, as yet another round of snow showers may through Saturday night through Sunday morning. This again will primarily be while many are sleeping, but a quick half inch isn’t off the table. Some computer forecasts have this missing us to the northeast, so it isn’t a certainty.
Next week starts will another cold front, which knocks highs back down to the 20s.
